Water Distribution, Conservation and Quality Research Programme

The Water Distribution Conservation and Quality research programme supported the WD key objectives to ensure: that the regulatory framework for the water industry works effectively to protect consumers' interests while adequately safeguarding the environment and public health and safety; and that appropriate drinking water standards are set and enforced to protect public health. These objectives are given effect through the legal framework of The Water Industry Act 1991 and the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000. Research supports also the development of policy on implementation of the new Drinking Water Directive and the European Commission's initiative to develop a European approval system for construction products used in contact with drinking water.
