The Water Directorate (WD) of Defra is responsible for all aspects of water policy in England, including water supply and resources, and the regulatory system for the water environment and the water industry. These cover drinking water quality, the quality of water in rivers, lakes, estuaries, coastal and marine waters, sewage treatment and reservoir safety. To help meet these responsibilities WD both funds research and also maintains an interest in relevant research funded by others.
The European Commission (EC) has funded FP4 (1994 - 1998), FP5 (1999 - 2002) and is currently funding FP6 (2002 - 2006). Each programme contains projects related to WD's interests. FWR has reviewed these programmes and identified projects that are relevant to the policy responsibilities of the WD. The resulting four publications are available for download in pdf format.
The reports contain detailed information concerning the project objectives, outputs and the researchers. Much of the information has been derived from the EC's CORDIS website and is subject to the copyright statement found at the beginning of each report.
