The Code of Practice detailed in this WSA/WCA document is intended to ensure safe working procedures when work is carried out on metal water service pipes, by maintaining adequate protection for both the occupier and for water industry staff and its contractors carrying out such work.

It has been produced by the Service Pipes Working Group, a sub-group of the WSA/FWR Sewers and Water Mains Committee. The work has been funded by the UK Water Industry initially through the Common Interest Research Programme and subsequently through FWR's Core Programme.
