Report No FR0103

DEVELOPMENT OF SEWAGE SLUDGE PUMPING SOFTWARE

FR0103

June 1990

SUMMARY

I OBJECTIVES

To develop a prototype mathematical model for sewage sludge pumping, which may be used to calculate pressure drops for a sludge pipeline.

II REASONS

An accurate model of sludge rheology and its application to sludge pumping is needed to specify pumps for new pipelines.

III CONCLUSIONS

A prototype model implementing new rheological correlations has been developed. This model is designed to permit the ready calculation of pressure drops for sewage sludge pipelines.

IV RECOMMENDATIONS

Whilst the project has provided new theological correlations, from existing data held by WRc, prototype software has been written to prove the algorithms but as such is not a usable working system.

A listing of the prototype programme is included for completeness however it is recommended that if fully supportable software is desired more detailed testing should be carried out and the input!output facilities developed.

In addition the model should be calibrated against other sources of design data to check the robustness of the new correlations used in Model 1.

V RESUME OF CONTENTS

This report provides a brief description of the model and the operating instructions for the computer program. A listing of the source code and the output from a typical test run are presented.
