MOSQITO 2 TESTING
Report No FR0311

Sept 1992

SUMMARY

I BENEFITS

Testing of the updated (Version 2) MOSQITO sewer flow quality model has demonstrated improved capabilities and reliability over previous versions and which gives greater confidence in its use.

II OBJECTIVES

III REASON

A major new version of the MOSQITO sewer flow quality model required performance testing against a defined Requirement Specification before the practical use of the model can be recommended.

IV CONCLUSIONS

The testing programme has concentrated on the evaluation of improvements to MOSQITO designed to meet the revised Requirement Specification and to address deficiencies in the earlier version. Testing of these aspects has proved largely satisfactory, although some outstanding problems have been identified. Some aspects of the testing programme were constrained by a lack of suitable data.

V RECOMMENDATIONS

MOSQITO 2 can be recommended for use as a component tool in Urban Pollution Management (UPM) methodology applications. The problems discovered in the testing programme are relatively minor and should be resolved. Testing of the model against real catchment data should be completed to fully demonstrate acceptable levels of model performance.

VI RESUME OF CONTENTS

Section 1 outlines the background to the development of MOSQITO. Section 2 describes the strategy used to define the testing procedure for MOSQITO 2. Sections 3 and 4 describe the tests undertaken and the results. The conclusions and recommendations are found in Sections 5 and 6. The Appendix contains details of the testing scenarios.
