CRYPTOSPORIDIUM AND WATER COURSES PRS 2292-M
Report No DWI0270

Dec 1989

SUMMARY

This report covers two small studies on Cryptosporidium and river situations.

The first reports methods, which were only partially successful, to try to improve the efficiency and the specificity of the systems used to recover oocysts from river sediments and makes suggestions for further work.

The second, derived from a dissertation presented to the Group of Experts on Cryptosporidium in Water Supplies, argues that although the evidence is sparse the products of sewage treatment, where the community contains excretors, are potentially sources of contamination of receiving waters.

It is apparent that there is a need for further studies in these and related fields.
